STS has access to an established network of mills in low-cost countries across South East Asia, India, and China. These are audited, project-proven facilities, not unknown suppliers selected solely on price. We actively manage these mills and apply the same third-party inspection and documentation standards as we do with any other supply origin. We only recommend them where we are confident they can meet the project's requirements.
Our focus is not on finding the cheapest price; rather, we specialize in competitive sourcing to deliver the best value. There is a significant difference here. Quality, traceability, and on-time delivery are non-negotiable, regardless of where the material is sourced for steel procurement.
Price matters. Every project team is working to a budget, and steel procurement is one of the most visible cost lines on any major project. The pressure to engage in competitive sourcing is real — and STS understands that.
However, in our experience, the cheapest option rarely delivers the best project outcome. Late deliveries, documentation failures, non-conforming material, and quality rejections all incur costs that far exceed the initial savings on the purchase order. In a sector where a single material rejection can jeopardize a fabrication schedule or an offshore installation window, the consequences of not meeting project requirements through proper sourcing can be significant.
STS's approach to low-cost sourcing is based on a simple principle: competitive pricing should never come at the expense of quality, traceability, or delivery reliability.
The majority of STS's supply is sourced from established, tier-one mills in G7 countries, ensuring competitive sourcing for our clients. These mills consistently deliver to the highest standards of dimensional accuracy, mechanical performance, and certification quality, making them the ideal starting point for meeting project requirements in technically demanding specifications and safety-critical applications.
When project budgets, schedule windows, or product categories make low-cost origin sourcing appropriate, STS also maintains an established network of audited, tier-one mills across South East Asia, India, and China. These suppliers are not chosen based on price alone; they are proven manufacturing facilities equipped with the necessary process capability, quality management systems, and certification infrastructure to meet the demanding requirements of oil and gas, offshore, marine, and resources projects.
We understand their capabilities and limitations, allowing us to know which products and specifications they can reliably deliver — and which ones they cannot, ensuring effective steel procurement for all our projects.
When considering competitive sourcing for a project, STS evaluates the optimal supply origin based on a combination of factors: Mill qualification and audit status — we only partner with mills that have been independently audited or have demonstrated qualification on comparable projects. Product capability — aligning the mill's proven capability with the specific project requirements and specifications needed. Quality track record — our direct experience with each mill's performance across previous steel procurement programs. Delivery reliability — a competitive price is meaningless if the material arrives late or fails inspection. Documentation capability — the mill's ability to generate the necessary certification and traceability documentation as required by the project quality system. Regardless of supply origin, STS applies the same quality management, inspection oversight, and documentation control to every order. Third-party inspection is standard practice. Documentation is reviewed before dispatch, ensuring that any material not meeting the specification does not ship.
Working with STS provides your project with access to the full spectrum of the global supply market, from premium G7 mill origins to competitive low-cost sources, all managed through a single, experienced supply partner. This partner knows how to meet your project requirements and what each origin can reliably deliver.
You benefit from genuine market access and commercial competition without the risks associated with sourcing from unqualified suppliers. Additionally, you receive honest advice about which supply origin aligns with your specific product, specification, and project context, rather than a one-size-fits-all recommendation driven solely by margin.
We are straightforward with our clients about what low-cost sourcing can and cannot achieve. There are products and specifications where audited low-cost mills represent excellent value and are fully capable of meeting project requirements. However, for complex offshore structural grades, high-integrity subsea components, and demanding alloy specifications, G7 mill origin is the only reliable option, and we will communicate that clearly.
Our reputation is built on projects going right, and we will not compromise that or your project by recommending a sourcing solution we do not believe in.
We actively pursue competitive sourcing strategies that prioritize competitive pricing for every client, but this is never achieved at the expense of quality, traceability, or delivery performance in steel procurement.
Structural plate and sections are essential for competitive sourcing in various projects. This includes hollow sections and tubulars, as well as line pipe—ERW and SAW. We also provide standard process pipe, fittings, and flanges in carbon and low alloy grades, tailored to meet specific project requirements. In addition, our offerings include piling solutions such as pipe pile and sheet pile, and shipbuilding grade plate. Furthermore, we supply secondary structural steel for mining and civil infrastructure, ensuring efficient steel procurement for all your needs.
